“Growing up attending the Nowra Show, a consistent highlight for me was always the showgirl presentation.
“Having the opportunity to experience the Nowra Show through the eyes of a showgirl, was everything I imagined and more. From speaking to excited show-goers across the showground, visiting every section and presenting ribbons, including the infamous sash and pash in the woodchop, and being front row for the rodeo – which did include a bull hurtling towards the fence directly at me, and yes I do have the video to back that one up. I created so many more fond memories at my favourite show.
“I was fortunate enough to attend the Sydney Royal Easter Show as a state finalist in April 2022. I found myself surrounded by 14 other young women from across the state, some hailing from towns I had never even heard of, and each with a unique story to tell. Our daytime ventures varied from behind the scenes tours, stewarding in the woodchop, cattle, horse and sheep sections, being presented with official badges by Her Excellency the honourable Margaret Beazely NSW Governor at the beautiful government house, professional development workshops, being interviewed in the announcers box and eating scones with the CWA. By night-time we could be found dining with AgShows NSW, our friends and family, royal agriculture society councillors, and Her Royal Highness Princess Anne who officially opened the show, celebrating 200 years of the RAS, albeit I was sat two tables away from her.
“I entered the state final experience telling myself to say yes to everything, meet new people and enjoy the opportunity to be there. I never thought that 6 days later, I would be announced as The Land Sydney Royal Agshows NSW Young Woman runnerup for 2022. It is such an honour to represent my home town, and also the state of NSW as an ambassador for Young Women across the AgShow movement.
“Every show I have been invited to since is so unique, but one thing is always constant – the people and their passion and dedication. These travels have broadened my knowledge of the agriculture industry in NSW and given me an insight into rural NSW, the challenges it faces and the importance of continuing the local show tradition.
“My appreciation for the Nowra Show Society and the hardworking management committee has increased tenfold. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful people that make Nowra Show happen. It has been the privilege of a lifetime being the 2022 Nowra Showgirl, and the little girl in me is looking forward to many more years of admiring the young woman entrants.
“Thank you”
